This because cetirizine will increase the excretion of alprazolam and will decrease the excretion of diazepam. This interaction is what can cause the patient to experience drowsiness and dizziness. Also, since cetirizine also interacts with the benzodiazepines diazepam and alprazolam; it can create the situation that patient experiences a benzodiazepine deficiency and will be in a greater risk of developing tolerance to the drug.
